Calling Radio Tokyo for a Marvelous Sugarbuzz
ReadySexGo - the Marvelous 3 CD Review

"And if I ever get over the fact that you're gone then I'll remember to forget about you."
- The Marvelous 3, Get Over

The Marvelous 3 are the best thing to come out of Georgia since canned peaches. You might be wondering why I'm saying that. Partly because I don't really like canned peaches. But also because on Tuesday, September 12th, 2000 the Marvelous 3's 3rd album hit stores. It's called ReadySexGo. Most people will know them from their "one-hit wonder" (which wasn't really a hit, just the only song that got radio/video play) Freak of the Week from Hey! Album.

This new album, with its attention-catching title and colorful cover, might actually make the boys popular rock stars. Either way, it's a unique compilation of rock music put together by talented lyricist/vocalist Butch Walker, Jayce the bass player, and Slug, who can beat drums like no other. The album features guest artists, but focuses on the same style of upbeat rock that the last album did. Not that this is a bad thing.

So what is Marv3 like, you ask? Well, you know how a lot of meaningful music is slow and depressing or too loud to hear? And you know how upbeat catchy music usually sucks? Marv3's music is upbeat and catchy, with clever and meaningful lyrics you can actually relate to (as opposed to pop music with lines as intelligent as "I want it that way" and "you drive me crazy" *ahem*). There are modern lyrics like "someone had a bad day so they sold your soul on e-bay" and "she took a light saber to my heart" combined with a range of emotions create to an electric feel. Songs range from fast rock in Grant Park to a slower rock ballad in Radio Toyko to a weird 80s dance feel in I'm Losing You and more of their older style in Little Head. They even sample David Bowie in Cigarette Lighter Love Song. This album is energentic and one listen will tell you that the group that made it put everything they could into it. This was not a quickly made, slapped together album.

The band is crazy too, which gives them extra points in my book. Their little escapades with a mannequin on the pages of the ReadySexGo booklet are... um... interesting. And best of all, Butch is hot. (Hey, looks don't really matter, but it's a definate bonus.) The last track of ReadySexGo is an announcer who reads the credits you'll find in the CD booklet and then a remix of I'm Losing You, one of the tracks on the album. (I'd like to see Korn do something that creative... but I shouldn't bring up personal bitterness in this article, so moving on...) Basically, they're anything but typical, despite their not-so-amazing title. (Admit it, "The Marvelous 3" sounds like a boyband...).

Okay, so I'm huge Marv3 fan and I've waited a while for this album to arrive. But that's not to say I'm alone. The Marvelous 3's fans range from members of Buckcherry, SR-71, and Lit to the run of the mill freaks like me. They're an amazing band and the fact that they still aren't popular is almost impossible to believe.

The Marvelous 3 have made appearences on Jay Leno (where Leno made some "nice" comments about Butch's red leather pants), David Letterman, and Conan O'Brien. In November, they're scheduled to be on the WB's Charmed (gag me) where they will preform Sugarbuzz and Cold as Hell. Well, at least they'll be noticed there.

I suggest you run to your nearest record store and buy Math and Other Problems (their unknown first album), Hey! Album, ReadySexGo or go to http://www.themarvelous3.com/ for more info.
