Setsuna &Sara

Angel Sanctuary was the first manga series I really liked. Since starting an anime/manga club and watching a few friends who are just getting into anime, I've been thinking about what brought me into the anime/manga scene. I decided to make this shrine to show my appreciation for Angel Sanctuary.

A few years ago, I was really into Sailormoon and Vampire Miyu, and would watch anything in the anime section of Blockbuster or Suncoast. I did not, however, like manga. I found manga pictures on Sailormoon sites and thought they were werid fanart. Later, I realized what they were and while they were "pretty," I never bought the manga. Then one day on the Closet Mailing List (a bastard child of the Vampire Lestat message board), anime came up. Lauren, who was a big otaku, sent me the link to the Angel Sanctuary Maling List Image Gallery. I was in awe of the gorgeous artwork. The pictures were stunning. Intially, I thought Setsuna was a girl, but investigation into the series revealed that I was wrong. I found the few sites that were on the net, read whatever translations I could find, and was desperate to get ahold of some this manga. (Back then, I didn't have a debit card and my mom was not entirely comfortable with ordering off of the net.)

Somehow, I just lost interest. Well, I wouldn't say that exactly. I just sort of forgot about it. I got in The Slayers (because I could buy those tapes at Suncoast), watched Ah! My Goddess, and AS sort of fell to the back pages. Since then, I've heard AS brought up in all sorts of places, but I never really went back to it. Then a few months ago, I found a word processor file on my harddrive labled "Favorite Links". Because of all of the trouble with my internet, I had put all of my favorite links into a file so I wouldn't lose them. Near the top was a link to the AS Mailing List.

I starting reading more recent translations. I decided to pay homage to the series that got my into manga by building this webshrine. I've been working on it for a few weeks and plan to have pages for all of the characters (well, most of them... it might be impossible to make them for all of them, since there are so many).

If it weren't for AS, I don't know how long it would have taken me to get into the world of manga. Because of it, I bought Code Name wa Sailor V and starting appreciating manga in its own right (not just as something anime is designed from).

Thank you very much, Yuki Kaori-sama. Arigatou gozaimasu.
